More vintage for you

Here is a winter ad from 1921 for coats and dresses at the ZCMI.
It's so cold right now! It was -8 dgrees as I left my apartment this morning. These coats look so warm to me...
I think the hats are my favorite part of this picture.

Let Me Explain...

Wow. My last post was on July 16th. It is now November 30th.

The reason I haven't posted in such a long time was that I:
a. Transferred to a new school and moved.
b. Needed to rethink the direction of this blog.
c. Am trying to get myself to post more congruently and regularly.

I also haven't publicized this blog much because I am just not confident that I can post regularly enough. But it's time to change that.

So, you will see less wasting time from me and more great posts. I am also adding my sister on as a street photographer. There is another project I am thinking about, but we shall see.

Until the next post then, I'll let you see a nice cold weather ensemble I caught a while ago.

A touch of harajuku, thanks.

Love it. This is totally my type of outfit. Oh and notice the pink and yellow nails!

My computer works!

It bounced back quickly. Hooray for computers that aren't really broken!

Today I watched The Scarlet Pimpernel, which was pretty good (but the book is better, yes) and it got me thinking about the art of the Cravat. Tying bows and lace around your neck is appealing to me, because it adds so much to an outfit, and sparks the imagination. Meanwhile, if done right, it doesn't actually cover up the rest of the outfit. So there is your challenge for the week. Master the art of the cravat.

:(

Just so everyone knows, my computer has the swine flu (ok not really, it just stopped working) so I won't have access to all my unposted pictures...which means very few posts (if any) until I can get things fixed! Sorry!

Perhaps this is a good chance to do another health essay or post some links...we'll see!

Swimsuit Season

All the colleges around here have been out for a few weeks, and all the highschools are getting out in the next week or two.
WOO HOO!
I love summer. And I love vintage swimsuits. In honor of both, I present this swimsuit eye-candy:

Cute! If you are looking to buy some vintage inspired swimsuits I'd suggest lusting after some on etsy. Here are my favorites:

Polka Dots. Sweet. Bold. Adorable. And of course: Nautical. Maybe the last one is a little too costume-y? But really, what is too costume-y for me?

Jordan Halversen is a designer that sells moustaches on a stick.

These are his new lapel pins

Here is the line he showed at Spring Fashion Stroll: (These Jodhpurs are my favorite!)
His signature patterened pants:
He's known for doing some really avant-garde stuff.

I love the back of this dress.
And the back of this one!
So as you can see, he's very creative! :) If you like what you see you can find some things for purchase at Model Citizen. Or you can view his website at: http://jhalversen.com/

Show #1, Fashion Stroll spring '08

Here is a collection from a recent SLCC fashion graduate. I don't remember her name :( but I remember that her collection was inspired by the 70's. :)
I am sorry i haven't posted anything from Fashion Stroll until now! The semester just ended for me, so I will do better for the summer.

Slip.

"I dared to wear a vintage satin slip from the '50s as a dress. It was a thicker satin than most of the dresses out there today. It was really cute paired with a shrug and pearls for that special evening out!"
--Kirsten, 18, Mount Airy, MD
I got this little quote from a list of tips on Seventeen.com a couple years ago. (You can still find that list on the site) I thought that was such a great idea. It's only by coincidence that this lovely lady is wearing an outfit similar to the one described. Her dress is in fact, a vintage slip (with thicker satin) that she found at Decades.
If you like this look, Decades has a beautiful collection of vintage slips, (on State Street, just south of 600 south) and the prices of the slips are lower than other vintage clothing.
And let's just face it, feather accessories are just so swank.

Such lovely prices.

I thought I'd pull this one out of my little archive for you to enjoy. I just love old schoolboy suits! This one is from 1921, and the prices are reduced for an end of summer sale.
